Second Step
We are currently using the Second Step program in our K-2 classrooms to teach critical social skills.
If you would like further information about the Second Step program you can go online to
www.secondstep.org with the activation key SSP1 FAMI LY71 to watch videos about the Second Step program and get information about what your child is learning.
I am thrilled to share with you that we have added some additional specific anti-bullying interactive lessons. These kits were purchased through a grant from the Friends of the Marblehead Public School. I am very excited for the teachers to start teaching these in their K-2 classrooms. Please ask your children what they are learning about bullying. You will be amazed at how much they learn and understand about how to handle difficult situations!

- The Second Step program teaches skills in the following four areas.
- Skills for Learning: Students gain skills to help themselves learn, including how to focus their attention, listen carefully, use self-talk to stay on task, and be assertive when asking for help with school work.
- Empathy: Students learn to identify and understand their own feelings and others feelings. Students also learn how to take anotherís perspective and how to show compassion.
- Emotion Management: Students learn specific skills for calming down when experiencing strong feelings, such as anxiety or anger.
